Men can seem surprisingly simple at times.
Other times…
You just don’t know what they’re thinking.
All men are different, but we’ve found some surprising “dealbreakers”, i.e. things that will make men run from a potential relationship.
Some things make sense and might be dealbreakers for women too, such as:
Health issues, STDs, bad hygiene, having anger issues, being abusive, and already dating multiple partners or in a relationship.
Of course the big, obvious dealbreaker always comes up: any kind of cheating.
This especially is a lien of no return for men.
It’s not exactly fair, but women are a little more forgiving about it than men are.
It did make me wonder if there are some less obvious dealbreakers for him.
What makes them run from a woman after getting interested?
Because we’ve probably all had the experience of meeting a guy, and things seem to be going well, and then he disappears or makes an excuse as to why he can’t see us anymore.
A questionnaire of college students discovered these dealbreakers:
- Disheveled or unclean appearance. Makes sense, right? If you fall for someone and then they get lazy and show up in sweats, don’t brush their hair, or look and smell unclean. I can understand that one.
Maybe women relax once they get into a relationship?
Whatever the cause, men don’t like it.
- Lazy. This came up second. And again, I can understand guys not wanting a lazy woman! I want a man that will keep up with me and take care of his own stuff.
Maybe we breathe a sigh of relief that there is a man around, thinking he’ll pick up some of our slack.
But that doesn’t seem fair, so I’m willing to concede that it’s not nice to impress someone and then get lazy down the road.
- Too needy. #3 is something I’ve heard before. And I know women can sometimes get into a relationship and then expect their man to fix everything for him. It can be a burden, I’m willing to bet.
This is one that men can do too. I just want to say that!
- Lacks a sense of humor. Now this is surprising, at least to me. I always thought men felt they had to be funny.
And it seems that women expect men to be the funny one too.
But according to men themselves, they see it as a dealbreaker if a women lacks a sense of humor!
That’s pretty big.
It might mean that women can laugh at themselves when needed, or see the funniness in a situation, or be able to laugh with their man. (As opposed to it meaning that women have to be funny.)
It helps in life to have a sense of humor, but I had no idea it was so important to men!
- Bad sex. Well, we probably saw that one coming.
The funny thing is, this is probably a dealbreaker for women too.
“Good sex” means different things to different people, so sometimes you just don’t match up.
Couples can learn to communicate and explore together, so it doesn’t have to be death sentence to the relationship…
That is, if something brings it up so the two people can talk about it.
But if you can’t meet somewhere in the middle of what you both want, the relationship has a much higher chance of not working.
Men see good sex as a need, so it makes sense that it’s a dealbreaker.
- Lacking self-confidence. This one surprised me a bit too.
Sometimes we women get the idea that men are frightened by a confident woman.
But men see it as a dealbreaker if she’s not!
That’s actually good new, I think.
If we look to studies from men after college, they cite:
- Dishonesty. You could lump this in with cheating, it what we’re finding is women will lie about others things and hide things.
It might apply to men of all ages, but older men even more so will call it quits after one lie.
- Not having a life outside of the relationship.
I think young men might be more willing to “always be together” but older men, after 25 or so, start to realize that both people need a healthy life of their own to be happy in a relationship.
And they probably want to have some of their own “me” time too.
For the most part, men’s dealbreakers aren’t that unrealistic or demanding.
I’m sure there are men who have super high and unrealistic expectations…but they’re more likely to be single too!
So take a deep breath, because men’s dealbreakers aren’t that bad.
And it was nice to get into their heads and see what they think on relationships, to find out they’re not too different on these.
Guess what juicy words men are dying to hear (You’ll be shocked & intrigued)
